Several people were injured when more than 20 vehicles were involved in a series of collisions in what police described as “treacherous” conditions.
A woman suffered serious head injuries and another sustained back injuries in the morning collisions on the A435 near Gorcott Hill, Redditch.
Other people, including a woman and a baby, were treated for minor injuries, the ambulance service said.
It said it was “extremely lucky” nobody was more seriously injured.
A West Mercia Police spokeswoman said: “Police at the scene described the driving conditions as treacherous with freezing fog and ice on the road.”

Police and paramedics were called to the first collision involving two cars which had left the road at about 0840 GMT.
A man, woman and baby were treated at the scene and taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Paramedics then watched as up to 16 cars collided on the opposite side of the carriageway.
While paramedics were treating those with injuries, a third crash happened, resulting in a number of people being treated at the scene.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said a local pub, the Holly Bush, was opened to allow “the walking wounded” to shelter from the cold while their injuries were assessed.
